Today we are pleased to introduce a new utility available to all members and their guests.  Available for your use is a DNS Utility which quickly retrieves things like A Records, MX Records, NS Records, etc.  Simple type the domain name you are interested in checking in the box and you will then be able to see the corresponding records.

We have also fully integrated this utility into every theme available here at The Host Helpers so you can use it without changing your regular look and feel.

I encourage everyone to use it and refer people to it if they find themselves in a situation where they would like to check something like this.

If you have any questions about it or notice any bugs, please let us know so we can get them taken care of.

Thanks.

Oh, and by the way, "Use it don't abuse it" Smiley

Just like friends don't let friends drive drunk; friends don't give friends URL's that are difficult to remember.  Cheesy

Thus, a handy subdomain:

Nice!

Would it be possible to add a ping utility within the DNS tools?

Sure.  Will work on it now.

Sure.  Do you want to be able to ping the results of the DNS query or just the domain entered?

Just the domain entered would be fine!

You should put in the action name so it doesn't show up as unknown.

Rate limiting isn't a bad idea either, and if you're using a command line script (like dig maybe?) to get the results I hope you escape the input correctly Tongue

IE: User enters 'reddit.com', server executes 'dig reddit.com'
User enters 'reddit.com && rm -rf /', server executes 'reddit.com && rm -rf /'. Problem!

OK, I fixed the "Who's Online" issue.  Everything ok there?

Will work on adding the ability to view all the records as well as the Ping utility next.

I'm not overly worried about input issues.  Confuser actually wrote part of the validation (he just doesn't know it yet) and I've spent a week testing all sorts of possibilities.  If you discover an issue with it let me know.

Suggestion: Add some other records like SRV, TXT, LOC.
