Seems Kubuntu is only going to be community supported from now on....

It would seem that Canonical dropped Gnome first... heh. LMDE looks like fun.

This is saddening. /: I'm not a KDE fan, but it still hurts to lose a member of the Ubuntu family!

Well I do see hat they're doing, they just recently gave official recognition to Lubuntu which which is a specialised spin with the LXDE interface

so they currently have

Ubuntu = Main distro using their Unity desktop
Kubuntu = *deprecated official support* another high resource competitor to their Unity interface
Xubuntu = until recently XFCE was the goto light alternative, though of late XFCE seems to have filled out more feature wise, and realy is kinda taken the place gnome used to have....
Lubuntu = A very recent Official addition, and honestly my favourite "light" desktop choice and does contain a lot of advanced features

I like thunar as much as nautilus. What's the difference?

im too lazy to change my distro... not to mention the pain in my a** it would be to upgrade from linus 10.04 -> 11.10/12.04

I liked KDE but i hated Kubuntu...

Oh reason for not upgrading my own PC to 11.10/12.04 is i need to buy either a 50-60ft long Ethernet cord or a wireless router+ receiver :P no other real reason...

You could use Dropbox without Nautilus... or any GUI at all.

I thought the only way to use Dropbox was to move files to its folders and let the magic happen.

This is how I use Dropbox on my server (bad idea, I know... insecure, etc, but it's confined to my user account)... let the magic happen; but on my KDE desktop, I control it using its notification icon/menu.

well you can still easily get that via the command line, say you have a file called, coolPicture.png in our dropbox public folder.... just issue the command from within the folder

Code: [Select]
dropbox puburl coolPicure.png
And it'll spit a public URL back at you that you can give out like so......

Not much less convenient really

Meanwhile, I just set up a proxy. It does automagic Markdown processing too. And certain file types are redirected.
