upgrade ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 today
« on: October 18, 2011, 10:48:06 PM »
There are no daily builds yet, but the toolchain seems to be ready!

Code: [Select]
sudo sed -i s'/oneiric/precise/g' /etc/apt/sources.list
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade --purge && sudo apt-get clean

... only do this on a testing box that you don't mind breaking, mind you.

The real breakage happens after UDS, anyway.

Do not upgrade!!!!  :o Seriously you aint gaining anything. Only upgrade if you are very bored and want to deal with problems every 5 min. I tryed it ;) The problems may vary but there isnt anything to gain. Absolutly nothing new that you would miss in 11.10  Ubuntu 12.04 IS  RETARDED 11.10 AT THE MOMENT!!!!:)

You can try hud in 11.10 by adding the ppa.

Actually I though hud required 12.04 due to dependancies

Problems that i have had so far with Ubuntu 12.04 with both gnome shell and Unity. At totally random times: Error messages ->
sorry the application closed unexpectetly. Applications were Empathy, Pidgin, Nautilus. The error messages come random and sometimes not at all.
Keyboard input problem: I lost my keyboard input randomly :)...i restarted many times before it was working again. It was allways working in boot menu and win 7!!!!
I had absolutly no problems in win 7 and 11.10!!!! Not hardware related.
So i am still testing but the errors keep poping up, that why i dont recommend upgrade incase somebody else has same problems because there isnt anything critical in ubuntu 12.04 that you would totally need in 11.10  :-\ Or me is so wrong that should be banned immediately??  :-\

Just to clarify, no one is banned for their opinions. Hell, no one is banned unless they either spam repeatedly or are abusing members.
But back on track...

Keyboard input problem: I lost my keyboard input randomly :)...i restarted many times before it was working again. It was always working in boot menu and win 7!!!!
I had absolutely no problems in win 7 and 11.10!!!! Not hardware related.
That's quite an odd issue, could this be due to the HUD? Since it's not a hardware issue, it's most likely due to a crucial service crashing.

Once this release is official and stable, I might just give Ubuntu another try, since that HUD does look pretty awesome. ;D

yah well thats why its alpha still atm, unless you are really willing to have bugs, only use it once its released and for 12.04 that'll be end of april in 2012 since Ubuntu release numbers are <last 2 digits of year>.<month with leading zero if below 10>, which means 13.10 will be released on 2013 October if we're all still around ;)

I never got the HUD working alltough did everything right. So i digged into it and it seems that the HUD is currently not available any more because of Unity 5.2 But there should be a way to compile and install it manually, so ill try that. For the users that are not so advanced and want to upgrade to test HUD i dont think its so good idea yet :( I allso havent get rid of my random errors.
