Yahoo gives away pop access!
« on: January 27, 2012, 03:36:48 AM »
Most of us have heard that yahoo has not been doing so well compared to google/gmail and possibly bing/windows live and apparently has been converting their mail service to include free pop access. Im saying this because some of my free accounts now have pop and some dont. can anyone verify this?

Nothing about imap but here are the server settings:
Incoming mail server settings

    POP server: pop.mail.yahoo.com
    Use SSL
    Port: 995

Outgoing mail server (SMTP) settings

    SMTP server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    Use SSL
    Port: 465
    Use authentication
Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com", for example, “jo.bloggs”)
Email Address: Your Yahoo! Mail address (for example, jo.bloggs@yahoo.com)
    Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password

just looked at my webmail notifier addon webpage and they list these as email providers.

Daum (daum.net, hanmail.net)
Naver
Nate (nate.com, empas.com)
Paran (paran.com, hanmir.com)

not sure what those are but were listed along with other common ones here: http://webmailnotifier.mozdev.org/

LOL got 3 domain accounts that have unlimited emails accounts..... services suck as far as general usage goes unless you pay extra for unlimited or at least... something that has more than 100mb per account.... definitely not a match for Google there :-(

i was at a friends house today that has a imac. he also has a yahoo email adress working with imap settings with the built in mac mail program. I forgot to check his settings but I am 100% sure i saw imap. I just did a quick search and didnt find anything so it may be new but i did find this on a outlook 2010 thread. I have not tested this but found this on http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/outlook/thread/0111c5c2-9350-464a-8950-cc0cd23a039e

Incoming:

imap.mail.yahoo.com

SSL: True

Port: 993

Outgoing

smtp.mail.yahoo.com

SSL: False

Port: 587

Outgoing server requires authentication: Checked

Use same settings as incoming server

and another way

incoming server:

smtp-ssl.mail.yahoo.com

port 143

outgoing server:

smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk

port 465

More settings:

Click on the Outgoing Server tab

a.       Check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication

b.      Make sure the Use same settings as my incoming mail server radio button is selected.

Click on the Advanced tab.  Under “Server Port Numbers”, enter the following:

a.       Incoming server (IMAP): 143

b.      Use the following type of encrypted connection (under Outgoing Server): Select SSL

c.       Outgoing server (SMTP): 465
