android devices
« on: October 17, 2010, 06:06:18 AM »
I'm thinking of getting an android device. what I an looking for is (reasonably) low cost, reliable, pocket sized, runs android, wifi connectivity, basically an android phone but without the phone bit. (and it must be available in the UK for obvious reasons)

does anyone have any recommendations?
I'm not going to be very active for a while, I have a huge amount of school work to do and I have many other commitments.
I am also revamping my website and it should be done sometime in the not too far future

So basically like an iPod Touch but with Android instead? Something without the phone that runs droid are usually tablets, not heard of anything of an iTouch equivalent.

Get 2.25G of space on Dropbox by CLICKING HERE, Rather than 2G otherwise. Sync files between multiple computers, Web and even share folders with your friends!

in effect yes but I am willing to accept a tablet if there is nothing else available

You can also get a phone and not use it as a phone... or get an iPod Touch and install Android on it :D

the problem with getting a phone and not using the phone part is that I would have to pay for a monthly contract, and an Ipod touch is far too expensive

You don't -have- to pay for a monthly contract.

Hm... it's probably not a great idea to put a desktop OS on a handheld device, but I've seen people do it. Heck, I've done it but I didn't like it ;)

On the other hand... http://www.thehosthelpers.com/-t1051.0.html

I guess its a matter of if it fully supports the hardware or not, and that I can't really comment on. BTW I did see that post, very very cool!
