That's right, here comes the 4G. Based on the keynote, here is what I've gotten so far:
-A4 processor just like the iPad
-Gyroscope in addition to Accelerometer and GPS for precision gaming
-Incredible battery with over 40 hours of music and 300 hours of standby
-"These phones are getting more and more intelligent" -Steve Jobs
-2 Cameras
-HD Video with 720p, 30 frames per second *Update*
-iMovie for iPhone, a brand new app written by Apple *Update*
-2 Microphones
-Available on T-Mobile as well
-High resolution display (retina display)
And the most important thing we learned:
-AT&T network doesn't work in San Francisco (neither does Apple's WiFi)
More info to follow...
Demoing iMovie on iPhone now... Actually very boring but very impressive. There is a reason iMovie was first written for a computer. Can upload iMovies directly from your iPhone to YouTube (anyone else wondering why AT&T capped iPhone bandwidth at 2GB?). Can download directly to your iPhone for $4.99 (as long as their Apps team approves it).
Up next, talking about how there are 570 devices using WiFi and keeping Steve from demoing anything. Making everyone put laptops on the floor and turn them off. Audio streams are going down quick as we turn things off. LiveBlogs tell Steve to go suck it and they keep on going...
Now Steve is talking about the OS. Renamed to iOS 4. Now criticizing everyone who said Apple was late to the Multitasking game. Getting ready to demo now. "We'll se if we really did turn off all those WiFi devices" -Steve Jobs
Pandora loads quick along with Safari sites...
Wait a minute. The folks over at gdgt just pointed out that Cisco owns the "iOS" name, wonder what is happening there?
Bing search added to the iPhone.
iBooks being upgraded for iOS 4. Don't really consider this a new feature though as we already talked about its upgrades before we got to the iPhone. Key point there was it can do PDF's now too.
Feature #8 (and the last advertised by Steve) is iAds. What a let down... No talk about the front facing camera, other networks, etc. The whole audience is sort of let down with this iAds. Energy has really dipped. As far as the presentation, it is pretty much a rerun of the keynote for iOS 4 a couple months ago.
Some of the advertisers already signed up with iAds:
“Nissan, Citi, Unilever, AT&T, Chanel, GE, Liberty Mutual, State Farm, Geico — they want you guys to have insurance! — Sears, JCPenny, Target, Best Buy, DirecTV, TBS network, and Disney. Those are some of the brands, and we couldn’t be happier. We’re so excited.” -Steve Jobs
One more thing...
FaceTime - video chat. From any iOS 4 device to another iOS 4 device. Only over WiFi - no cellular networks. While Steve was demoing it, it froze up and he went off on people to turn off their WiFi devices.
Comes in 2 colors (black and white). $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB. Ships June 24 (and in stores). Can pre-order starting June 15.
iPhone 3G is gone, 3GS is now $99. AT&T will let anyone who's contract expires in 2010 upgrade for the prices above (of course with a new 2 year contract).
Apple made their own case for it, cost $29. No, the case does not make it look like a 3GS.
If you have a 3G or 3GS product (including iTouch), you can upgrade to iOS 4 for free starting June 21 but not all features are supported by 3G models (and the first generation iTouch can't be upgraded).
And that's it. Thoughts?
