iPad Release - USA 04/04/2010
« on: April 04, 2010, 12:53:18 PM »
As promised, Apple  has launched its latest creation to the public this weekend. Locations like Apple’s Pittsburgh retail store saw  huge waiting lines ahead of the tablet’s release, while others, like the Palo Alto store, saw even more excitement than originally anticipated - a surprise visit from Apple CEO, Steve Jobs.

- The significantly improved 9.7 inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen with Multi-touch is perfect for all your movie watching, e-book reading needs.

- A first peek under the hood reveals two huge Li-ion Polymer batteries taking up most of the space in this device. […] The 3.75V, 24.8 watt-hour battery provides the juice for an advertised 10 hours of use. In contrast, the iPhone 3GS has a 4.51 watt-hour battery and the MacBook Air has a 40 watt-hour battery. […] It weighs 148g with the casing.

- The display data cable connector is the same style used in all of the new Unibody MacBooks.

- The logic board is about 4.5" wide, spanning about 60% of the iPad's width.

- […] the A4 processor is probably being manufactured by Samsung.

- The connector found on the speakers and other components is typical of the connectors seen in MacBook Unibody laptops.

- The ambient light sensor lives in a compartment that a camera would love to call home.

Apple iPad Having Issues With Non-Mac USB Charging

http://www.itproportal.com/portal/news/article/2010/4/5/apple-ipad-having-issues-non-mac-usb-charging/

With Apple's iPad finally being released, the device has received mixed reactions from customers, who have also reported an issue which arises when they try to charge the iPad via USB.

Upon further investigation it was found that USB ports in old PCs and laptops are not powerful enough to charge the almighty iPad.

Whenever users tried to charge their new iPads via USB, the words 'Not Charging' appeared on the device's menu bar, indicating that the device was not being charged.

I used one in a store on campus today. It's actually pretty nice, I've got a tax return coming so hmmm....

Yeah, touchscreen keyboards suck because of the lack of feedback.

I don't even think I'd enjoy playing with one :/ I'd much rather spend my $500 on an android or windows 7 tablet as well, because having a tablet would still be interesting, just not one running the stupid iPhone OS.

PS: As always, don't be an early adopter. If you get one now, you're going to screw yourself out of money and likely features of later generations (like a webcam)

+1 - I didnt get my iPod touch until the 3rd Gen.

I havent used the iTampon's keyboard, but if its anything like the iPod one I would love it! I love the lack of feedback, its minimal effort and noise free.

Tablet PC's have never impressed me, I would be too worried about dropping it and breaking the screen.
