TodayInLinux.com
« on: July 18, 2011, 08:25:57 PM »
Ok So i bought this like a month or so ago and am finally getting around to doing something with it. Over the next few days ill be actually like getting the site together, and such.

So im looking for some authors for it.. I'll be writing stuff myself as well. But of course, the more the merrier. So for any article you write, on 90% of page visits to articles written by you, an advertisement/link/etc will be shown as specified by you.

SO yea. I think that's pretty cool. Yea. So more about all this later....

I could possibly contribute some small articles on setting things like vhosts up with apache, some common stuff people will search in google :) (And obviously more complex stuff if need be)

Absolutely. I plan on writing articles as i do things. So not really going to focus on writing much. But this will be home to anything i do in the future. Some large and small tutorials.

If anyone else wants to share ill open registration soon and ill allow just about anyone here to be an author.

My hope is that by grouping lots of awesome articles together, they'll all get more traffic, and each persons ad will earn more impressions/clicks.

See an example ad here : http://todayinlinux.com/hello-world/
Its the box that for me says ChemicalServers. You can put ads there as big as 500x250. Pictures, text, paypaldonate, or adsense. Author's ads are global to their articles. So you can change it whenever. Or you can just have no ad.

Also i'm pretty sure that little box will be the only ad placement. So wont be too annoying for people visiting.

And no. The site is not done.. I've got a few more things to add and change on it. Although the basics are all there now

Yeah, I can write some stuff for you if you want, although I'm not sure what I'd write.

Are you aiming it just for linux config style stuff, or also for some app development / script development as well?

Heh. Hate the black theme, and I don't know about the article. I'd just do "service httpd restart". Granted, when you want to restart multiple daemons a bash script is super handy.

Cool. Yea now that i see the dark theme with an article im not so sure about it.
So yea im going to invert the theme...

Categories will be setup as articles are created.. So just sorta. Categorize as you go I guess. Preferably with broad overarching categories, which will get put into the sidebar.

Any other things that should be on the sidebar?

Oh and i promise, ill get to this soon. I'm just in the middle of moving... xD

Done some pretty substantial updates.. Edited every theme file, several plugins, and created some posting guidelines which can be seen by authors. Please provide any feedback.

Good! I based it off wordpress's initial twenty eleven theme.. with about 9001 modifications.

Made some more modifications to improve visual representation and reduce some duplication.
What do yall think of the slideshow thing? It automatically populates to show most recent posts. I cant decide if I should not show the posts below that or not.. >.>
