[01-15-2011] Minor modifications for SEO
« on: January 15, 2011, 06:26:15 PM »
Today we're working on some minor modifications to hopefully enhance the popularity of our forum with not only people, but those search engine bots too.  :D

We apologize if you get any 404s, backup those large posts before you post them!

We would be delighted if you guys could help in anyway.

I'll add a review of ChemicalServers in a few months. Thanks for the notification!

Thank you!

Additionally, this modification phase will last for a while, might be as short as just this three day weekend, might be as long as two weeks. We'll leave the notice up until we're completely done. However, the 404 type stuff shouldn't occur as we edit (at least not anymore).

Hello,

Just to advise you guys no other 404's will occur.

It happened last night due to the htaccess not updating correctly. I updated manually within seconds so no major disruption was caused.

Just to let you guys know we need your assistance also in making this forum the biggest on the net.

An interesting point that I didn't pick up on earlier.  I'll look in to what options we have here and try to make changes over the next 24 hours.

That can be resolved easily.

Edit the breadcrumbs and have the first one static with any title you want.

Yes, sure, thank you.
I feel honored that it's done after only my words, as I don't know if it does matter at all for all the others. : )

On one forum - I don't remember where, though - that was almost full 1024px width line of text and that looked awfull as for being navigation link only. ; )

Well, we appreciate you speaking up. I personally have a wider resolution than you, so I would have never seen it.

To be honest, I didn't even notice it until you said something but once you did I agreed that it needed to be shortened up.  If there is anything else you guys find that needs changing let us know, we will definitely take all suggestions in to consideration.

I have a suggestion. the forum notification emails from address should be like this:

"The Host Helpers | HTML, PHP, Website Management & Webmasters Forum" <admin@thehosthelpers.com>

instead of

"HTML, PHP, Website Management & Webmasters Forum | The Host Helpers" <admin@thehosthelpers.com>

If you search Google for The Host Helpers http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=the+host+helpers this forum shows up 1st position. So there would be no point to have the website name at the start.

Your title tag is one of the most important factors when it comes to onsite SEO and your titles keywords should start with the most important and end with the least.

Well, let's do it, I agree as well. (We just need to change the title, right?)
