Hi everyone,
I hope this month of November is going well for you. I want to make you aware of an upcoming event that will happen here at THH. November 16 is American Censorship day. This is the first day that Congress will be holding hearings over a new bill called Protect-IP. This bill allows the Recording Industry/Hollywood/etc to require ISP's to filter internet content available to its users. The goal of this filtering is to cut down on piracy and the like. However, it does not stop there. Websites would be required to remove links to all of these sites and can be sued if not compliant. Clearly this affects sites like Google more than us, but the concept of internet censorship is one that should be of concern to everyone.
How Does This Affect Me Here At THH?
Over the next few days, when you visit THH you will see more details about this bill. Full details are still being ironed out but most likely one of two things will occur. First, a video will be on the site explaining the bill and the affect it might have. The video is just under 4 minutes long and you can close it at any time. Second, our logo will change black and clicking on it will allow you to write/call Congress about this bill. This can be done without leaving THH. You might also be asked to like our site on Facebook at the end of this.
Some Important Notes
-We will be using GeoIP technology so such messages only appear to U.S. based visitors
-You will only see the message once in your entire visit to the site.
As always, your feedback is important to us. If you find that this isn't working as intended or is causing conflicts please let us know and we will work to get it fixed. THH has been and always will be about you guys and we respect your opinions.
Thanks again and best wishes.
